Kære Læser
For mere end 2000 år siden skrev Platon sin Symposion, der for eftertiden skulle blive et vidne om verdens mest berømte drikkegilde. Sokrates og hans lærde forsamling drak sig på dionysisk vis fornøjede og fremførte den ene tale efter den anden til ære for kærlighedens sande væsen. Sandheden skal man som bekendt høre fra børn og fulde folk, og i Symposion er kærlighed ikke blot et fysisk begær, men i lige så høj grad en kærlighed til viden.
Dette nummer af Kulturo byder på et symposium af stemmer, der alle ytrer sig om kærligheden i den moderne kultur: den kærlighed, der udfolder sig i kulturen, såvel som den sandhed, kærligheden afslører om kulturen.
Alice Goudsmith lægger ud med en kærlig behandling af erotikbegrebet hos filosoffen Georges Bataille, i hvilket overskridelsen af jeg’et er centralt. Erik Steinskog knytter overskridelsen af jeg’et til passion og hysteri, der er vigtige ingredienser i såvel 1800-tallets operaer som i dannelsen af det moderne subjekt.
Dernæst beskriver Camilla Kragelund, hvordan den franske kunstner Sophie Calle i næstekærlighedens tjeneste forfølger en flirt med den amerikanske forfatter Paul Auster i et spil mellem intimitet og distance. Også i de følgende to artikler spiller intimiteten en væsentlig rolle: Annette Thorsen Vilslev og Thomas Kyhn Rovsing Hjørnet udveksler ord og kærlige tanker om muligheden for intimitet via e-mail-mediet, mens Henrik Rundqvist diskuterer intimitetens vilkår i nutidens samfund – sådan som det udlægges af de aktuelle forfattere Michel Houllebecq og Frederic Beigbeder.
At kærlighed ikke nødvendigvis udfolder sig mellem mennesker, men også kan findes mellem en kameralinse, en pakke bacon og en nation kan man læse i Dag
Peterssons artikel om den svenske fotograf Lars Tunbjörk. Diana Gerlach forfølger også en hjemstavnstematik i sin artikel om den serbiske videokunstner Zoran Naskovski; her knyttes kærligheden til basketballspillet sammen med en stærk men – i historisk optik – problematisk fædre- landskærlighed.
Læseren skal dog ikke snydes for en kærligheds- erklæring af mere traditionelt tilsnit. Jonas Varsted Kirkegaard kaster et kærligt blik på trubaduren Bob Dylan, hvis amorøse kvad er rettet til en ganske særlig kvinde. Også for den tyske filosof Friedrich Nietzsche spillede kvindeskikkelsen en central rolle: Morten Madsen kobler i sin artikel Nietzsches livsfilosofi sammen med hans kærlighed til kvinden.
Den idealiserede kærlighed har det dog til- syneladende svært i det moderne samfund. Katrine Sommer Boysen og Sophie Engberg Sonne redegør i deres artikel for, hvorledes Hongkong-filmskaberen Wong Kar-Wai lader den moderne storbys desillusionerede kærlighedsforhold træde frem med både skarphed og skønhed. At kærligheden er i krise understreges yder- ligere af Mikkel Bagge Lange, der i den franske litterære kanon ser, hvordan kærlighed og subjektivitet er forbun- det med kedsomhed.
Med denne ‘sang’ afsluttes vores lille symposium om kærlighed i den moderne kultur. Men det vil næppe blive den sidste, der synges til kærlighedens pris – eller for den sags skyld: på dens bekostning.
